Family Guy: Uncensored Preview

Minigame madness with the Griffin clan.
 
Later this summer, Glu is bringing Family Guy: Uncensored to the iPhone. The game is a collection of minigame events built around a storyline that starts out when Peter wants to watch a little softcore, but the power goes out. It snowballs from there into seven minigames starring characters from the show in goofy situation. Each minigame has up to eight levels, with each level either introducing new elements or upping the difficulty.
 
The "Robo-Stewie" minigame is a classic 8-bit platformer with obvious Mega Man inspiration. (Stewie even wears the Blue Bomber's helmet.) One of the stages ends with Stewie squaring off against a robot dragon piloted by Olivia, the little girl that broke his heart and stole his fame. In "Sketch Arcade," Chris flies through a side-scrolling shooter, blasting bizarre enemies out of the sky fetched from his imagination, such as pigs with Meg's face. "Peter vs. Chicken" pits the patriarch against poultry, bashing a chicken suit mascot on top of a moving train.
 
Over time, Family Guy: Uncensored could be fitted with additional minigames via updates.
 

Shades of Mega Man, perchance?

The strange thing is, though, that Family Guy: Uncensored hardly seems uncensored -- in fact, thanks to some of the strict content rules of the App Store, this game seems rather tame. There seems to be little of the show's perverse sexual innuendo and situational comedy of questionable taste. However, what the game is full of, though, are winks and nods to many of the show's running gags, such as Stewie harassing Brian to "where's my money" or Chris' flair for drawing. Glu says it worked with show writers to come up with the storyline and the situations. The game features music from the show, but not voice work.
