Anno and Silent Hunter Coming to iPhone

by Levi Buchanan - IGN.com | 10 February 2010 12:00

Ubi's increased attention to iPhone is underlined by upcoming releases.

This morning, Ubisoft released its fourth quarter plans (essentially, the first three months of 2010) and included in the schedule were a handful of iPhone games. Assassin's Creed II Discovery has already been released and IGN has already covered the announcement of Assassin's Creed II Multiplayer, an four-player online game set in the world of the Italian Renaissance. However, two new titles appeared on the release list: Anno Dawn of Discovery and Silent Hunter 5.

Anno Dawn of Discovery: The Harbor is a continuation of a world-building strategy series with entries already on PC, Wii, and DS. Based on the Anno Dawn of Discovery game (known as Anno 1404 in other territories), players must establish a settlement and push back against rival occupants with the same goal of building out a new civilization. Anno has hints of Civilization, to be sure, but the PC and console/handheld editions also place a premium on story. Hopefully, the iPhone chapter will also include a solid narrative.

Anno Dawn of Discovery for the PC.

Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, a submarine game, also flanks a planned PC release. Players take control of a German U-boat and participate in well-known naval scenarios during the early half of World War II.

These four releases show an increased devotion to the iPhone from Ubisoft, which has traditionally relied on sister company Gameloft to handle the majority of its catalog on mobile devices. Look for more information about Anno, Silent Hunter, and Assassin's Creed II: Multiplayer in the coming weeks on IGN.
