Batman: Arkham City -- Every Criminal Is Screwed

by Greg Miller - IGN.com | 02 June 2011 12:00

New comic sheds more light on Warden Sharp's plan.

If you've broken the law in Gotham City -- no matter how small the infraction was -- Mayor Quincy Sharp is coming for you. At least that's the take away from the second issue of the Batman: Arkham Asylum comic book.

DC Comics released a teaser chapter of the book today, and it put us in the changed streets of Gotham. A few weeks ago, the first issue of the five-part miniseries took us through a bombing at City Hall that allowed Mayor Sharp (the former warden of Arkham Asylum) to declare martial law and setup Arkham City, a walled off section of Gotham for the city's most deranged criminals.

Don't try to fight him, idiot!

Today's chapter of issue two follows Jenna Duffy. She's a female, mostly reformed crook working as a carpenter, but the comic has her on the run. It seems Sharp's private agents (Tyger soldiers) are marching through town grabbing everyone and anyone they deem a criminal.

"Mayor Sharp's turned Gotham into his own personal police state, as his private army grabs everyone, no matter if they've paid their debts to society or not," Jenna says via inner-monologue. "If you've got a record, then you deserve to be locked up. Even me."

If even reformed criminals are being shoved into Arkham City, how long before the powder keg explodes? What does Sharp gain by rounding up people just trying to get by? How long before masked vigilantes are "recruited" for the general population as well?

The next chapter of the story is on sale June 22, and Batman: Arkham City comes out October 18, 2011.
