Netherlands thrashed by Blck Caps in warmup

NZPA/Ross Setford | 31 May 2009 04:13pm

New Zealand tuned-up for next week's world Twenty20 warm-up encounters against India and Australia with a big win over the Netherlands yesterday.

The Black Caps racked up 194 for eight batting first and dismissed the Netherlands for 104 in the 20th over in the game at Wormsley, near Oxford.

New Zealand took control from the top of the innings, with Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder putting on 46 for the first wicket. McCullum went on to amass 62, including eight fours and two sixes.

Neil Broom, 28, Scott Styris, 26, and Jacob Oram, 20, provided good support.

The Dutch never got momentum going as none of their batsmen made it to 20.

James Franklin was the best of the New Zealand bowlers, taking three for 10 off four overs, while Daniel Vettori continued his good form with three for 24.

New Zealand coach Andy Moles said he's been pleased with the team's form during the practice games in which they also beat Ireland and Bangladesh.

"We've left Wormsley on a high with plenty of good performances with both bat and ball.

"I'm confident we're moving in the right direction, but we all know we're coming into the hard part now."

New Zealand play official warm-up matches against India at Lord's tomorrow and against Australia at The Oval on Tuesday.

Their first world championship match is against Scotland on Saturday.

Abbreviated scores: New Zealand 194-8 ( Brendon McCullum 62), Netherlands 104 (James Franklin 3-10, Daniel Vettori 3-24).
