Force India lodges independent entry for 2010
06 June 2009 12:59pmForce India submitted an independent entry for next season's Formula One championship on Friday, a move that will likely see the Indian team suspended from the Formula One Teams Association.
Force India followed Williams and lodged a separate official entry to race next season after originally being part of the conditional entry lodged by Fota, which is demanding that governing body FIA make changes to proposed rules first.
"While the Force India team is broadly in agreement with the Fota objectives, commercial obligations have demanded that Force India review its conditional entry jointly submitted by Fota on deadline day (May 29). This has been done today with full transparency between all parties," the team said in a statement.
Fota lodged a conditional entry because it disagrees with FIA president Max Mosley's push to include a $60 million (NZ$95 million) voluntary budget cap that would eventually become mandatory in next season's regulations.
Williams was temporarily suspended from the F1 teams' group after lodging its own entry. The list of 13 F1 teams for 2010 will be published on June 12.
"It's likely they may be suspended," Fota vice chairman John Howett said. "(Force India owner Vijay Mallya) will be here tomorrow, and I will speak to him then, but I have to say I think it is the intention of Fota to suspend them based on a face-to-face discussion with Vijay."
