Orford wins NRL player of the year award

AP | 10 September 2008 08:18am

Manly captain Matt Orford has won Australian rugby league's highest individual prize, named Tuesday as the Dally M award winner.

The Sea Eagles halfback got the top honour ahead of Melbourne Storm fullback Billy Slater and hooker Cameron Smith.

Orford was also voted best halfback in the National Rugby League, with Slater and Smith winning their positional awards.

League-leading Melbourne dominated those, with Israel Folau voted best centre and Greg Inglis best five-eighth.

Inglis was voted representative player of the year for his performances in Queensland's state-of-origin series win over New South Wales.
