Roosters chief exec slams security after bottles thrown
20 September 2008 05:23pmSydney Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan has described security at Mt Smart Stadium as a "joke" after New Zealand Warriors National Rugby League (NRL) supporters allegedly pelted his players with bottles.
In ugly scenes during last night's 30-13 playoffs win by the hosts, a group of fans apparently threw plastic bottles and chicken legs onto the field as the Roosters stood behind the posts after a 45th-minute try to Warriors fullback Lance Hohaia.
"A few of the players have mentioned it," Canavan told The Daily Telegraph newspaper.
"It wasn't good enough. It is disgraceful behaviour when fans resort to throwing things.
"Especially at players. They are the entertainers. They are the people they come to watch. All Stadiums have to be very strict."
Canavan called for the NRL to seek out the culprits and ban them for life.
"They need to go out and find these people," Canavan said.
"It has happened on several occasions. We have gone after people at the Sydney Football Stadium.
"I am sure the NRL will be very diligent with finding these people."
Roosters centre Mitchell Aubusson said a full bottle he thought looked like it was made of glass narrowly missed his head.
