Otago's Miller joins athletics world champs team
21 June 2009 04:36pmOtago hurdler Andrea Miller has been added to the New Zealand team for the world athletics championships in Berlin in August.
Miller, 27, clipped two hundredths of a second off her own 100m hurdles national record two weeks ago in Geneva when she clocked 13.10 seconds.
The time was also under the B standard of 13.11sec set for selection for the world championships, and Athletics New Zealand today said Miller has been approved to compete as a development athlete in Berlin.
Miller will next compete in Celle Ligure in Italy on Tuesday, then is scheduled to contest the World University Games in Belgrade in two weeks.
An initial nine-strong New Zealand squad was earlier named for the world championships in Berlin from August 15-23.
Heading the team are reigning world and Olympics women's shot put champion Valerie Vili and Olympics men's 1500m bronze medallist Nick Willis.
Other New Zealand athletes hopeful of qualifying for the championships have until July 27 to record the necessary times and distances.
