Martinez plans for Valencia's Wigan exit
17 June 2009 08:22amRoberto Martinez has taken charge at Wigan and is already preparing for the departure of winger Antonio Valencia.
The Ecuador international is being pursued by Manchester United as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
"If there is interest I'm sure the chairman will tell me if he has to go or not," Martinez said Tuesday at his first news conference as Wigan manager. "If that happens we have to be creative in order to improve the squad."
Martinez left Swansea to replace Steve Bruce after he took charge at Sunderland.
"We need to carry on improving the squad and then be realistic, be patient, work hard and try to stay in the Premier League," the Spanish former Wigan player said. "After that we need to have a dream, which for Wigan is to one day play in Europe."
