Te Puke pounded by Claudeland Rovers
14 June 2009 08:42pmClaudelands Rovers continued their charge through the early stages of the women's soccer Knockout Cup with a record equalling 20-0 thrashing of Te Puke in Hamilton today.
The Northern League heavyweights had already notched an 18-0 victory in their preliminary round tie. With Jackie Pretswell and Holly Patterson each bagging five goals, they easily surpassed that mark with this first round victory.
Football Ferns striker Sarah McLaughlin chimed in with four goals as Rovers equalled Three Kings United's 15-year-old record for the competition's biggest scoreline.
In Dunedin, Roslyn-Wakari was another big winner as they put 10 unanswered goals past Invercargill's Southend United with a Briony Barclay hat-trick leading the way.
Meanwhile Lauren Mathis also scored three as Glenfield Rovers beat Hibiscus Coast by the same score line on Auckland's North Shore.
Defending champions Lynn-Avon quietly began their defence with a 3-1 win over Fencibles in Auckland, while in Christchurch on Saturday Avon United upset Ferrymead Bays in a penalty shootout after scores were locked at 3-3 after extra time.
