Statham notches up another win in Egypt
19 June 2009 06:16pmNew Zealander Oliver Statham has notched up another win in an ITF Futures tennis tournament in Gisa, Egypt.
Statham won his second singles round match against Karim Maamoun from Egypt 7-5 2-6 6-4 and will meet second-seeded Frederic De Fays from Belgium in the quarterfinals.
In the doubles Statham and partner Adam El Mihdawy progressed more smoothly past the semifinals, beating Massimo Capone and Marco Simoni (Italy) 6-2 6-0.
Elsewhere on the ITF Tour, GD Jones lost his first match in the main draw of the Futures tournament in Sacramento, California, going down 6-3 6-3 to Alex Kuznetsov.
Jones and Igor Sijsling (Netherlands) lost their first round doubles match against Philip Bester (Canada) and Gregory Quellette (USA) 6-3 3-6 (10).
Kiwi women Sacha Jones and Dianne Hollands, playing an ITF tournament in Brownsville, Texas, have both reached the second round in the singles.
Second seed Jones had a hard struggle with Kaitlyn Christian (USA) before taking the victory 6-4 5-7 6-3 while Hollands won her first match against Ashley Weinhold (USA) 6-2 6-2.
In an ITF tournament in Pattaya, Thailand, Ellen Barry won her second match against third-seeded Ankita Bhambri from India 6-2 7-6 (3).
Chelsea Te Tai lost her second match in the ITF tournament in Gausdal, Norway, beaten 5-7 2-6 by top seed Maria Mokh from Russia.
