Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth.
 
A front moves north over the South Island today and tomorrow,followed by southerlies. A ridge spreads across the South Island on Sunday.
 
Strong wind advisory. Thursday: Easterly 10 knots. Changing southwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots overnight. Slight sea becoming rough overnight. Mostly fine. Fair visibility in showers developing overnight. Friday: Southwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots easing to 15 knots in the morning, then tending easterly in the afternoon and easing to southwest 10 knots late evening. Rough sea becoming slight in the morning. Mostly cloudy, fair visibility in the odd shower.
 
Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Southwest 10 knots easing to variable 5 knots in the evening.Showers clearing in the morning and fine spells developing. Sunday: Becoming easterly 10 knots for a time in the afternoon and evening. Cloudy periods. Monday: Northeast 10 knots developing. Mostly cloudy with evening drizzle.
 
Swell forecast to midnight Monday: Easterly 1.5 metres, easing to southeast 1 metre on Friday, to half a metre late Saturday and dying out on Monday. Northeast half a metre, dying out Friday.

Sea becoming very rough for a time. Easterly swell 2 metres easing. Southwest swell rising to 2 metres for a time. Poor visibility in showers developing early morning, easing Friday afternoon.
Outlook following 3 days: Southerly 20 knots dying out Sunday afternoon.Moderate southerly swell developing Saturday.
